Skagit Conservation Education Alliance --- Program Manager

 

The Board of Directors of the Skagit Conservation Education Alliance is recruiting a Program Manager. Hours of work are flexible (may include occasional weekends or evenings) and will be a minimum of half time with the opportunity to grow to full-time depending on project specific needs and fund raising success. Current funding sources for SCEA include the Skagit County Clean Water Program Fund, grants and fund raising events, and memberships.  The Program Manager’s primary responsibility will be securing additional funding through grants, memberships, sponsorships, or other creative means. 

 

The Skagit Conservation Education Alliance (SCEA) is a community based non-profit organization working for the benefit of the greater Skagit ecosystem to protect water quality through public education, programs and events.  The SCEA Board includes members from local agencies, nonprofit organizations and concerned citizens.

 

Our mission is:  To bring people together in the spirit of cooperation to protect, conserve, and enhance the natural ecosystems in the Skagit Watersheds. As an “umbrella” organization SCEA provides a forum for building and fostering local partnerships. SCEA seeks to promote voluntary stewardship practices and a coordinated approach to addressing local resource issues, particularly those related to water quality and non-point pollution.
 

            SCEA maintains a small office in Mount Vernon in a building shared with other non-profits with similar goals. The Program Manager takes guidance and direction from the SCEA board of directors to prioritize and complete the following tasks:

1)      Pursue funding opportunities based on identified projects that meet SCEA’s mission. This will include but is not limited to preparation of grant proposals, solicitation of foundation funding, memberships, sponsorships and fundraising events.

2)      Assess and identify current state and county water quality outreach and education efforts including past and present SCEA projects in order to assist the organization in linking these programs to synergize the local energy to accomplish similar goals. Actualize SCEA’s outreach and education project development. Fulfill all current grant contracts and projects through coordination with the board, members and volunteers.

3)      Publish periodic newsletter and provide relevant information to members via email on a timely basis. Coordinate or complete web-site updates, volunteer project and public service announcements.

4)      Maintain a member database, tracking contact information, volunteer interests, donations and comments. Input and edit accordingly, establishing a list serve linking upcoming events in a new Clean Water Network.

5)      Manage organization’s finances using Peach Tree accounting software.

6)      Attend monthly weekday board meetings and take/distribute minutes from the meetings.  Attend other daytime committee meetings as needed.

7)      Coordinate SCEA presentations, educational and other possible fundraising events.

8)      Complete other tasks as assigned and developed by the SCEA Board of Directors.

 

Letters of interest and resumes should address these preferred minimum qualifications:

1)      Successful grant writing fund-raising experience

2)      Nonprofit management, project development and implementation, educational programming and volunteer coordination

3)       Strong interest and/or professional experience in water quality and/or non-point pollution management issues

4)      Word processing, desk top publishing, database management and accounting software

5)      Related Bachelor’s degree and/or substantial successful business or non-profit experience

6)      Strong writing, communication and public relation skills

7)      Team player, well organized and able to work under direction of a diverse board of directors

 

The work schedule is flexible as the only current SCEA employee.  Compensation will be hourly, depending upon experience.  No benefits are available at this time.
